HAVE QUESTIONS?

LET’S START HERE

When it comes to ensuring the best care for your pet, information is everything. We’ve gathered the most commonly asked questions to help guide you. We’re just a phone call or email away if you need further information.

Who owns Forty Creek Animal Hospital?

Dr. Jay Thrush and his life partner Lisa Milan own Forty Creek Animal Hospital. They are proud to independently own and operate the hospital without the support of big corporations whose financial interests tend to change the spirit and care of a pet – and people-centred practice. Jay and Lisa are committed to maintaining a home-town and family feel in their veterinary clinic. Everything they do is in the name of health and well-being for pets and the people who love them.

Where are we located?

We are ready to welcome you into our hospital at 4621 Durham Road in Beamsville (right at King Street and the roundabout). You’ll find a map here.

What are our hours?

We are here for you and your pet from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday. We are closed on all statutory holidays and are currently closed on weekends.

What do I do if my pet needs care after hours?

We know how stressful it can be when your pet is sick. When we’re not available, we’ve got alternate options you can count on:

  • Smart.Vet is an after-hours service that Forty Creek Animal Hospital offers our pet owners, free of charge. You can call them and speak directly with a registered veterinary technician and your concern can be triaged immediately. Their skilled and compassionate team will help ease your mind if your pet’s issue is minor and can wait until we are open, or they can direct you to the closest emergency room if the concern is more urgent. You also have the option to pay for virtual telemedicine with a veterinarian. You’ll need to set up a profile for this service, so we suggest you do that before your pet needs care. Smart.Vet
  • Niagara Veterinary Emergency Hospital 3300 Merrittville Hwy Unit 1A, Thorold, ON L2V 4Y6, (905) 641-3185
  • Burlington Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital 775 Woodview Rd, Burlington, ON L7N 3S1, 905-637-8111
How can I schedule an appointment for my pet?

We have made it simple for you to book an appointment online. You can also call us at 905-945-VETS.

What type of animals do you treat?

While our doctors are trained to handle various other species, including wildlife, Forty Creek Animal Hospital focuses on dogs and cats.

Do you handle emergencies?

Yes, we handle urgent care and emergencies during our regular working hours. If your pet needs immediate attention during business hours, please call us at 905-945-VETS  so we can best prepare for your arrival.

What services do you offer?

We are a fully functional hospital, and our services include wellness visits, vaccinations, sick pet examinations, laboratory services, routine and complex surgery, orthopedic surgery, dental surgery, spaying and neutering, X-rays and ultrasounds. Learn more about our pet well-being services here.

What complex surgeries do you perform?

Our advanced veterinary surgical team offers orthopedic, cruciate, dental, soft tissue and traumatic injury and mass removal procedures. We also provide comprehensive diagnostic and imaging services. Learn more about our advanced surgery services here.

Can my pet have surgery at Forty Creek Animal Hospital without being a regular client?

Absolutely. We offer surgical services to any pet in need. The wait times for getting your pet the required surgery are long, and the cost often stretches a family’s budget beyond its means. While we do not have “board-certified” veterinary surgeons on our team, Dr. Jay Thrush has extensive experience and education in performing many surgical and dental procedures. Your veterinarian can refer your pet to us, and we will perform the required surgery or dental procedure. We then transfer medical records and care instructions to your regular veterinary facility.

To get things started:

What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, cash and debit. We can also provide our pet owners with access to HUMM, a financial services company that offers “buy now and pay later for little and big things”.

Do you offer direct billing to Insurance Companies?

Yes, we work with most pet insurance providers to make your claims process easy and timely. Please bring your insurance policy information to your next appointment, and our care team will assist you with the process.

What should I do if my pet is on medication(s) and I need a refill?

If your pet has not yet been seen by one of our veterinarians, you will need to book an appointment. One of our veterinarians would be happy to do a wellness exam to familiarize themselves with your pet’s needs and prescribe the necessary medications. If refills are not available, you will also need to book an appointment to see one of our veterinarians. If you are currently a Forty Creek client, and your pet has an up-to-date prescription on file, you can email us at care@40creekvets.com to process a refill. You may be also able to refill your pet’s medication online. In all cases, providing the required medicine is in stock, we will process your refill request within 24 hours.

Feel-good facts about Forty Creek Animal Hospital

Long before we built our hospital, we dreamed of making every pet and person who walked through our door feel welcomed, comfortable and cared for. This dream has guided us every step of the way on our journey to offer reimagined vet care. Here are just a few of the ways we do to:

  • We’ll always offer you a complimentary beverage to make your visit both tasty and comfortable while we care for your pet.
  • We are life-long learners and teachers, so mentorship means a lot to us. That’s why you’ll often encounter a veterinary or veterinary tech student when you visit. We do this as a way to contribute to fostering a strong foundation for new veterinary professionals. We also learn a lot from the students who work with us, so it’s a win-win for everyone. This philosophy helps support a dynamic and strong network of experts who love and care for pets and their people.
  • Our staff is treated with love and respect in all the ways that matter the most to them. This includes being compensated above industry standards, covering 100% of their health benefits, providing them with uniforms, work shoes and many other perks.
  • We dress alike in our clinic because we believe in teamwork, not hierarchy. At Forty Creek Animal Hospital, interacting with kindness, joy and respect is a way of life and we extend that to every person and pet who comes into our clinic.
